要徹底了解一款煙草調配，和徹底了解一個人一樣，需要時間。具體說來，第一斗煙，往往只留下模糊的感性形象，不足為信。起碼需要 3、4 斗甚至更多。另外，是否始終用同一把煙斗品嘗，也有講究，因為不同的煙草會在煙斗留下不同的氣味痕跡。隨著不斷的體味，慢慢地開始捕捉到煙草的細致微妙之處，而微妙性是區分煙草調配是否優秀的重要標准之一。
